Wauconda Cadet Program

The Wauconda Fire Cadet Program is open to young men and women ages 16–20 who are interested in learning about the fire service through hands-on practical experience and classroom training.

Cadets meet every Wednesday evening at one of the Wauconda Fire District’s three fire stations. Cadets learn all aspects of the fire service, including firefighter training, day-to-day station operations, fire tactics, emergency medical care, teamwork, leadership, and responsibility.

Training includes hands-on experience with fire apparatus and equipment, hose and ladder operations, fire hydrants, SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus), search and rescue, fire tactics, emergency medical skills, and much more.

Cadet Enrollment

The Wauconda Fire District accepts a new class of Cadets every two years. This allows Cadets to progress through a structured two-year program that builds on skills and experience from year to year.

Our next new Cadet enrollment will take place in August 2028.

Those interested in joining a future class are encouraged to complete our Cadet Interest Form to receive information about upcoming enrollment opportunities:
